FAQs about Website Reviews

A collection of questions you most likely have - if not all, but some will be on your mind. After all, it's your money and you should spend it wisely... We wouldn't expect you to trust your hard earned money on Koss UK, or take our word for what a website review can do for you, unless we completely answered all your questions.

Can I get a free website review?
We do not do free website reviews (although we do have random special offers you might want to check out).

It costs a great deal of time and money to stay ahead of our competition in usability studies, website design guidelines and review processes. We have read almost every case study and report available on user psychology, usability and computer interface interaction which have cost tens of thousands of pounds; read almost every book worth reading on the subject matter (another investment of well over £1,000) and assessed the capabilities of all the search engine optimisation and ranking analysis software - we've bought a lot of garbage along the way too - and all of this helps us stay completely abreast of current trends, combined with known usability habits.

A vast amount of knowledge and experience is applied to your website review. Our reviewers may not be IT whizzes but they are experts in the phsycology of website users.

What does the review give me?
The review provides you with an inspirational collection of ideas that you can grasp quickly and put into action straight away. You will not be bamboozled with complex suggestions – all the recommended changes will be easy to do – because we get right to the point, you get the changes you need faster than you'd ever have thought possible.

It helps you get more targeted traffic and increase your conversion rate.

Why do I need a website review?
Most website owners come to us when they are struggling in one of two areas; either because they have a website but very little traffic or because the website gets traffic but hardly any conversions (if any at all).

You need a website review because 'assuming' your website is 'ok' is very risky indeed.

How do you do it?
How we do it can lead to a fairly complex answer. Phew, where to start... Well, the reviewer starts by setting an objective of completing a task on your website, then s/he goes through your site as a 'typical' user would do and makes notes along the way about anything that s/he likes or dislikes and (most important bit) what (if anything) gets in the way of achieving the objective.

What do I get?
At the basic level, you get a PDF of the reviewer's notes along with an email listing the reasons for the comments and clear suggestions of how to improve your website. The quantity of notes and suggestions depends on the type of review you order. In more advanced reviews, you also get a narrative of the review, supplied as an MP3 or a video file.

Your website review will meet our strict criteria by being: Specific, Balanced, Honest and Solution-oriented.

Who reviews my website?
A group of experienced website reviewers who have a talent for Internet marketing and usability. These people are not website designers and are not the most technically minded folks at all (believe me) and have no desire to be – which is good because...

technically minded individuals do not fall into the 'typical website user' group.

What experience do you have?
Well, most of us have worked on the Internet in one form or another for at least 5 years. The most experienced reviewer has been involved in Internet marketing since 1996. So I think it's safe to say we know a thing or two about websites, Internet marketing and – considering the hundreds of websites we've reviewed, usability guidelines.

Our experience has proved, without a shadow of a doubt, that small changes make a massive positive impact on conversion rates.

What can you tell me that my designer won't tell me?
A heck of a lot! Many web designers are extremely talented but they are not 'marketing' experts and very few of them consider the 'typical' user when they design a website. Designers 'know' how the website works so they don't need to be told to 'click the yellow button to go to your shopping basket' for example.

The other thing about the designer/client relationship is that the designer will have demonstrated the website to the client and so the client also now knows 'how' to use the website. The problem is that the end user has, in most cases, never been consulted.

Don't make the big mistake of treating your website visitors like 'beta testers'. If they don't like your website, they will not tell you, they'll just leave.

How much work will I have to do?
Hardly any really. Initially all you have to do is order and pay for your website review and we do all the work from there. The amount of work you undertake once you get your review is up to you. You can prioritise the changes and address a few each week or so, working through the list of recommendations. If you use a website designer, you could ask for specific changes over a period of time to work within your budget (although a lot of the common changes literally take a few minutes each – we rarely recommend a complete redesign).

We do not sell website deisgn services so your review will not be biased toward design fees.

How long will it take?
Your website review can be with you in as little as 4 hours. More complex reviews (e-commerce reviews for example) take up to 48 hours but NEVER longer than that. We guarantee it! We appreciate that you want the information fast so that you can start making the right changes to your website so we make sure you get the information fast. Because we have reviewers in various countries, we can (and do) review websites at silly hours so you could get the results back sooner than you expected but our guarantee is based on UK business days and hours.

What if I get completely stuck?
First of all - nothing is that complicated. No matter how much hype you read, this is not rocket sciencee. However, we accpet that some people do struggle and that's why we commit to helping you along the way. With your review you will get access to our support system so you can send us your questions.

We help you as much as you need while you make your website improvements. We want to help you succeed.

What if my website designer disagrees with your suggestions?
What do you mean 'if'? Designers usually do disagree because many (but certainly not all) are egocentric when it comes to their designs – which we fully understand. PS: Egocentric is a real word, honest. See WikipediaAn egocentric person cannot fully "put himself in other peoples' shoes"”. That's what we do. We put ourselves in your visitors' shoes and tell you how we see it.

What if I have already had a review?
Short answer: Get another one. You've already invested time and money in your website and, like your other advertising, you want to know what people thin. Right? How many opinions is too many? You can never have too many opinions about something so important. The more 'typical' users' opinions the better.

Many of our customers ask us to review their website 3 or 4 times per year so that they never 'step out of line', plus, we get different people to review the site and we find that a new reviewer will often pick up on something that a previous reviewer missed – often because that particular issue didn't bother or hinder the previous reviewer.

Every website review reveals something you were possibly unaware of about your website - likes and dislikes.

There are so many people offering website reviews, why is yours different?
Your website review is based on hundreds of usability and website design guidelines that are proven to work - not just a handful of guidelines (like many reviewers promise).

Because we practice what we preach, we have tested the services provided by countless website designers and reviewers and know what the alternatives are and very few even come close to being Specific (no copy and pasting), Balanced (explaining the good and not so good - and why), Honest (we don't scribble just for the sake of it) and Solution-Based (showing you what to change and why).

We guarantee that what we recommend will improve your website traffic and conversion rate or you get your money back - and you get a full year to put it all to the test. I'm still looking for anyone else who does this without loads of restrictions.

Since 1996 we have constantly fine tuned our reviews (our list of usability and web design guidelines has grown to over 400 issues) to ensure you get a no-risk website review that you can completely depend on to deliver performance improvements.

Isn't this the same as search engine optimisation?
While there is an 'overlap' between getting the right sort of targeted traffic to your website and converting an acceptable percentage of that traffic into customers (directly or through enquiries), subscribers or whatever the intended action actually is, Search Engine Optimisation is a separate part of the Internet Marketing activities.

The primary focus of your website review is to provide you with advice, in simple, clear and specific dialogue, that will help you generate more 'conversions' from your website. However, this information, by looking at things like your site structure and content, also leans toward enhancing the 'search engine friendliness' and 'search engine optimisation'.

Your site review is your 'how to' for targeted traffic and increasing conversion rates.

Will the suggestions help my search engine rankings?
Yes. It can have a massive impact on your search engine rankings. Please read the previous question and answer.

Will it help me get more traffic?
Yes. It can have a massive impact on getting targeted traffic (website visitors) through search engines. Please read the previous question and answer.

Is there a list of guidelines that you use to review my site?
Yes but we do not show it to our customers for good reason. We have found that the more information we give people, the more overwhelming it becomes and the less likely anything will actually be done. If we gave you a list of some 400+ website usability and design guidelines it would be so daunting that you'd most likely not know where to start.

Because of our experience reviewing websites and what we have learnt from consultation sessions, we know where to start, we know which sections of guidelines to relate to and we know what to focus on depending on the type of website, the target market and the business you are in.

What do you guarantee?
As answered in a previous question, we guarantee that what we recommend will improve your website traffic and conversion rate or you get your money back - and you get a full year to put it all to the test. I'm still looking for anyone else who does this without loads of restrictions.

We guarantee results that the website review will help increase your business performance.

For more details about what is guaranteed, please read the Website Reviews Guarantee.

How can I pay for the review?
The easiest and quickest way to order your website review is by PayPal. You don't need to have a PayPal account. All you need is a debit or credit card. By using PayPal, your review could be with you within the next 4 hours.
If you prefer, you can be invoiced ahead of the review being carried out. The review will be completed once the invoice is paid by either bank transfer (BACS) or cheque.

"How much does a website review cost" I can hear you shouting...
Starting at just £199 the cost of a website review is (most likely) less than the value of sales you'll lose today - and every day until you know how to get more customers.

My Word Against The World

Website Reviews - FAQs about Website Reviews

So many of my customers (usually before they become 'customers') ask me how I can be so sure about what I say... Well, quite frankly and boldly, I reply:

I know what works, what matters, what doesn't, and why, and I'll put my knowledge about website design and user habits up against anyone in the world.

Now I know that was/is a very bold statement to make but don't read it as being arrogant. I leave all the arrogance for the affiliate marketers out there with their 18 page long sales pages and websites that spill hype and BS all over my desk.

The reason that my customers' websites not only rank better than they ever did in the past, but they also generate more customers than they ever did in the past is down to the extensive, detailed and solution based advice I give them.

I don't pat myself on the back at the end of every website review we do here, I want to pat my customer on the back for being smart enough to realise that there is always more they can do... Is that what you're thinking? That there's a lot more you (via your website) could be doing? If it is then you need to know this:

I personally Guarantee you will get more traffic to your website and more conversions (sales, enquiries, subscriptions, etc) in the next 6 months than you had in the previous 6 months... Or I give you every penny of your money back!

If I can say more than that then I don't know what it is. If you're looking for answers that guarantee results, where your investment is 100% safe, then you've found it. Go out there in Interwebland and see if you can find anyone else willing to bet the price of your website review and advice against your future website performance and I'll not only eat my hat but I'll give you a website review completely free.

Why Review My Website

Website Reviews - FAQs about Website Reviews

No Hype, No BS, No Excuses. All you get is the right information for your online business development - right now.

So many people ask "why should I hire someone to Review my Website?" And why indeed. If you don't want to know the truth then don't ask for a website review - it most likely will upset you and hurt your ego. But if you do want to know how you can dramatically increase the traffic AND the increase your conversion rate then, yes, you need to know what is working and how you can make it even BETTER!

Without any website reviews, how will you ever know?

Simple answer - you won't. You'll just take it for granted that it can't get any better. That you can't get any more traffic than you get and that you can't get any more new business from it than you get right now.

Well it's time to stop thinking like that and start thinking how much more business you could get by making a few changes to your content, your keyword strategy and your website design. Amazing things have and do happen to traffic and conversions from the simplest changes.

Oh, let me just tell you one very important thing here: I do not serve out any BS, I don't hype up potential and make people think they can be instant millionaires - I hate all that crap that people rant about.

So you won't hear me blabbing on about Twitter or Facebook or telling you that riches are waiting for you if you devote 99% of your life to blog commenting, forum posting and social bookmarking... No no no! All you get from me is genuine advice about what really matters; Increasing your website's traffic and getting more people to stay, read, and take the action you want them to take.

There is no magic formula or hidden secret. There's just facts. Hard and fast proof of what works and what doesn't - which bits do you want to know.

OK, so what do you want to do?

Carry on regardless or learn how to generate serious business from your website? The choice really is yours.

Take a look at these two screen grabs from a recent website review:

80-percent
This when the website followed 80 of the recommended top 10 ranking guidelines.

92-percent
But, a few hours later... 92% recommendations followed, and...

More website traffic and higher conversion rate within a couple of weeks. And don't panic. The changes were NOT a complete redesign. They were not technical. They were accomplished in a couple of hours using nothing more than notepad. Changes anyone could make... Including You!

I've said it before and I'll keep on saying it:

Search engine optimisation, website optimisation, conversion rates, website reviews; all sound big and clever but none of it is rocket science, none of it by itself is the holy grail, none of it warrants the hype and BS that (unfortunately) many people attach to it.

Are you ready?

I personally Guarantee you will get more traffic to your website and more conversions (sales, enquiries, subscriptions, etc) in the next 6 months than you had in the previous 6 months... Or I give you every penny of your money back!
